Malcolm J. B. Paynter

Malcolm James Benjamin "Ben" Paynter, 71, of 200 Valley View Drive, died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at An Med Health of Anderson.
Born in Holly Hall, England, he was the son of the late Horace Benjamin and Evelyn Timmington Paynter. He graduated from Sheffield University in England where he earned his BSc in Biochemistry and his Masters and Doctorate in Microbiology. He did a 2 year post-doctoral program at U.C. Davis, CA.
Dr. Paynter founded the Microbiology Dept at Clemson University, was the department chair for 21 years, taught and carried out research for a total of 40 years and upon retirement was honored as Professor Emeritus of Microbiology.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Valerie Anne Griffiths Paynter of the home; and two daughters, Joanna Marie Paynter of Costa Mesa, CA and Samantha Dawn Paynter of Atlanta. He was a loving husband and devoted father.
In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by two sons, Jason Mark and Jonathan Brett Paynter.
Funeral services will be 3 PM, Sunday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Parish House of the church.
