Malcolm O. Usrey

Malcolm O. Usrey, 80, of Clemson, died Friday, July 16th. Born in Shamrock, Texas to Henry Burt Usrey and Mattie Mollie Cathey Usrey, he was the eighth of ten children on a Texas panhandle farm. Preferring books to tractors, he graduated from Abilene Christian College and earned a Ph.D. at Texas Tech University. His career as an English professor at Clemson University for nearly thirty years allowed him to share his love of books with countless students. Malcolm served as an elder at the Clemson Church of Christ for many years.
Survivors are his wife, Katie Cummins Usrey of Myrtle Beach, SC, his daughter Elisabeth (Bettye) and son-in-law Scott Lackey of Myrtle Beach, and four grandchildren Taylor, Anna, Caroline, and Emily. He is also survived by 4 siblings, Patricia Morrison, Jack Usrey, Joe Usrey, and Wilson Usrey. In addition, he profoundly loved his nephews and nieces, their children and grandchildren, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Clemson Church of Christ on Wednesday, July 21 at 11 o'clock in the morning.
