Marcelle Edge Rogers, 93, wife of 70 years to the late John C. Rogers, passed away on Saturday, December 12 surrounded by family.
She was a graduate of Spartanburg Junior College and a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson for 52 years. Her employment history included Administration Assistant with South Carolina Mills, American & Efird and Registrar for the Pickens County Board of Elections.
Marcelle was the daughter of the late Charles Paul and Nannie Edge. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a true Southern Lady who loved her lifelong friends, never met a stranger and created a home where everyone was welcome. Marcelle was a member of the Clemson University Women's Club, Adult chapter of Clemson Fellowship Christian Athletes, Arrington Sunday School Class, Keenagers, lifelong Bible Study class member, past choir member and Meals on Wheels volunteer. She baked a countless number of cakes for church members and friends. Marcelle was famous for her coconut pound cake that brought a high price at church auctions raising money for missions. Marcelle and John loved to entertain and cook for all their friends and family. She loved to travel, theatre and music. She was an avid Clemson Fan including years of tailgates where she was known for her cheese straws and cinnamon pound "Marcelle" cakes.
Marcelle is survived by one son, Bobby Rogers and wife Laurie of Fort Mill, SC; two daughters, Marilyn Rogers Whipp and husband Dean of Denver, NC and Jan Rogers Johnson and husband David of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren, Emily Marie Pope, Carly Johnson Fenimore and husband Mark, Sarah Johnson Bonner and husband Chad, John Chalmers Rogers, Benjamin David Rogers and wife Anna Marie, Becky Whipp Toliver and husband Devin; great grandchildren, Savannah Grace Blackman, John Brooks Fenimore, Cannon Anthony Toliver, and Cora Mary Jane Toliver.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Elroyd Edge and Charles Paul (Chunk) Edge II and one sister, Louise Edge Goble.
