Margaret P. Allen, 91, formerly of 105 Ivydale Drive, peacefully passed from this life Thursday May 6, 2010 at Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
Born January 16, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA. to the late Michael and Rose Praniewicz, she was a graduate of the 1937 class at New Kensington High School in New Kensington, PA. and then became a beautician. During W.W. II she joined the Women's Auxilliary Army Air Corps (WAAC) and transferred to the Women's Army Air Corps when the WAAC was disbanded. She served at Baer Field, Ft. Wayne, IN. When the war was nearly over in 1945, she transferred to the Greenville Army Air Base in Greenville, SC where she met her late husband, CMSGT Carroll L. Allen. Mrs. Allen was a den mother in the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts for many years. She volunteered at St. Mary's Catholic Church nursery for more than 30 years and was a life long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Following her retirement at S&S Produce, she then worked at Robertson Farms located at the Greenville Farmer's Market, before reluctantly retiring at 85 years of age because of failing eyesight.
She is survived by two sons, Carroll Allen and his wife, Mary Green, of Columbia, SC and Larry Allen and his wife, Glenda Ross, of Easley, SC ; a daughter, Audrey Allen Merritt, of Marietta, SC ; a granddaughter, Patricia McCuen and her husband, Charles ; a grandson, Nick Allen and his wife, Tammy ; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Jasmine and Jonathan Allen.
In addidtion to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Michael, Arthur and Teddy Praniewicz and three sisters, Bernice Sargent, Marie Kocon and Delores Altadena and a beloved great-grandson, Michael Allen.
Graveside Memorial Services with military honors will be 2:00 pm Monday in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley.
Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until 1:45 pm Monday at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road.
The family is at their respective homes.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful and loving care given by everyone at Richard Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home and special thanks to the Hallmark Hospice care during Mom's final days.
