Margaret Rosetta Fouts

Margaret “Peggy” Rosetta Fouts, 86, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2026, at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, South Carolina, following a courageous battle with dementia. Born on November 18, 1939, in Elwood, Indiana, Peggy was the daughter of Cedric and Margaret Huntsinger. She graduated from Elwood High School and attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

Peggy was the devoted wife of Jerry J. Fouts, with whom she shared 67 amazing years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered around family, friendship, adventure, and a deep love for one another. Peggy was a loving full-time mother to their three children and took great pride and joy in her family, creating a home where everyone felt welcome.

Peggy began her career at Mead Products, where she served as Secretary to the Operations Manager and Chairman of the Safety Committee. In 1977, Peggy and Jerry moved to Allegan, Michigan, where she became Office Manager of The L. Perrigo Company. Her commitment to her community and the arts was recognized in 1992 when she received the Distinguished Arts Patron Award from the Mecosta County Council for the Arts.

In 2001, Peggy and Jerry retired to their home at Lake Keowee in South Carolina, where Peggy quickly became an active and cherished member of the Keowee Key community. An avid golfer, she was a member of the 18-Hole Ladies Golf League and later served as its President. She was also a loyal member of Seneca Presbyterian Church, where she served for many years as an Elder and the Liturgist.

While Peggy accomplished much throughout her life, those who knew her best will remember her for the way she made people feel. She was a ray of sunshine, positive, energetic, warm, welcoming, and always ready for the next adventure. Peggy had an extraordinary gift for making friends wherever she went. She had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, valued, and included.

Peggy loved life and embraced it fully. She enjoyed traveling, golfing, swimming, water skiing, playing bridge, entertaining, and spending time with family and friends. She was an amazing hostess who welcomed one and all into her home and into her life. Her home was a place of laughter, friendship, good food, and connection, and there always seemed to be room for one more.

Above all, Peggy loved her family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Jerry J. Fouts; her three children, Jerry Brent Fouts and his wife, Tinker, of Buchanan, Michigan; Timothy Stewart Fouts and his wife, Maggie, of Niles, Michigan; and Denise Fouts-Turner and her husband, Bradley, of Boynton Beach, Florida; her grandchildren, Brent Michael Fouts,

Jacob Allen Fouts, Madison Fouts Turner, Haidyn Fouts Turner, Landon Bradley Turner, and Brittany (Fouts) Banic, Chelsea Fouts; and four great-grandchildren.

Peggy leaves behind a family who adored her, friends who cherished her, and communities made better by her presence. Her legacy is one of love, friendship, generosity, and an unwavering love of life. She taught those around her to say yes to an adventure, welcome others with an open heart, remember the people who crossed their path, and find joy in the everyday.

Peggy never seemed to meet a stranger; she had a remarkable ability to turn strangers into friends. Her warmth, laughter, energy, and beautiful spirit will be deeply missed. For all who were fortunate enough to know and love her, Peggy leaves behind not only wonderful memories, but also the lasting reminder of what it means to live life with an open heart.

She lived 86 wonderful years with an adventurous spirit, a generous heart, and an extraordinary love for her family, her friends, and the life she was given. And she leaves us all with a little more light because she was here.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Seneca Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 1:00 PM followed immediately by a Friends and Family Reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Peggy’s name may be made to Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, SC.
