Margaret A. Weast (Peggy), 81, of Easley, SC, peacefully passed away on June 8th with her daughter by her side. Born in Lewiston, Maine, to Napoleon and Margaret Wood Marcous, Peggy was the youngest of three children born on March 6, 1945.
After she graduated from high school, Peggy attended nursing school and, after her children were old enough, completed the program at the University of Maine Augusta. She went on to spend over 25 years working in the nursing profession in various roles. Her caring spirit and devotion to the nurturing of others made her a highly successful nurse. After a change in her husband's career direction, they both picked up roots and moved to South Carolina in 1998 and never looked back.
Peggy was lucky enough to have found the love of her life, James Weast, and they married in 1968. Their love was one that few people have the good fortune to have; they were soul mates and best friends, she was Jim’s whole world, and vice versa. They went on to have two children, Jennifer Ann and James Vernon. Together they lived a full and rich life, a good life filled with lovely memories of family trips, friends, and time spent just the two of them. They spent 55 years enjoying each other's company, lifting each other up in bad as well as the good times.
Peggy was a strong, kind, loving, and supportive mother and wife. She always put her family first. Her knowledge and guidance was the foundation of her family. She led by example and taught her children the importance of treating others the way you want to be treated, to live with integrity, and to stand for what was right, even if it wasn’t easy.
Peggy was an avid golfer; she could often be found traveling around the state with her husband and friends chasing the elusive perfect score. She also loved reading and shared that love with her children. Peggy worked with various literacy groups, and at one point even built a library at her children’s school where there was none.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents, Napoleon and Margaret; her sister Rachel; her brother Daniel; her beloved husband, James Sr.; and her son, James Jr. She leaves behind her daughter, Jennifer, of Easley, SC.
