Margaret Welborn, of Liberty, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2019. She had the good fortune to live beyond her 107th year. Throughout her latter years she rarely lost her smile, her laugh or her sense of humor.
Margaret was born in 1911 in the SC low country, in Orangeburg. She was the first born of the late Marvin Arant and the late Daisy Hartzog. She had two younger sisters, Gene Arant Stallworth and Daisy Arant Wolfe. Margaret outlived all of her family of origin.
Growing up Margaret loved sports and played basketball and tennis. She loved swimming and was an avid bridge player. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1933 and became a teacher. She moved to Liberty in 1935 to teach 4th grade.
It was at that time Margaret met her husband, Norman Welborn. She and Norman had three children. She is survived by her son, Norman, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Aiken, SC and her daughter, Pat Bowland, and husband George, who reside in Easley. Marvin, their second child, died at age three.
Margaret is survived by four grandchildren: Patty Crotwell of Lake City, CO, Amy Crotwell of Knoxville, TN, Winston Welborn and Benjamin Welborn of Hanalei, HI. She has three great grandchildren, Julia Bentley, Tiare Welborn and Ariana Welborn.
Margaret was a faithful member of Liberty United Methodist Church and played the organ there for over thirty years.
