Frances Marguerite Monteith, 96, of Easley, South Carolina, beloved wife of the late Edgar Reddell Monteith, known as” Ed”, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026.
Born on December 1, 1929, in Anderson, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Ross Lee Sullivan and Earlene Caudle Sullivan.
Marguerite married the love of her life, Ed, on April 14, 1949. They shared 67 cherished years together before his passing on March 17, 2016. After graduation, she worked at Dunean Mills and Franklin Dyed Yarns. In 1970, Marguerite embarked on a second career as a dietitian with Greenville County Schools, faithfully serving for many years until her retirement.
In 1959, Marguerite and her family moved to Piedmont, South Carolina, where she became a dedicated member of West Gantt Baptist Church, known as The Church at West Gantt. Her faith guided her life, and she served for many years in the children’s ministry, especially in the nursery.
Marguerite was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and a faithful servant of Christ. Her quiet strength, kindness, and steadfast faith will be remembered by all who knew her.
Marguerite is survived by her daughter, Gail Monteith King (Stan) of Seneca, South Carolina and son Barry Monteith of Greenville, South Carolina; beloved grandchildren, Brian Mercier (Hileri), Ginger Mercier Cash (Brett), Graham Monteith (Sarah), Augusta Monteith Dorcely (Senjeur), Silas Monteith, McClure King (Mackenzie), McCreight King (Sarah Kathryn), and McClain King (Kristy). She was a proud great-grandmother to Lynli Mercier, Cason Mercier, Landon Cash, Wyatt Cash, Shiloh Dorcely, Amelia Dorcely, Sullivan Monteith, Carter King, Ellie Kathryn King, Margaret King, Mary Mac King, Kate King, and Jackson King.
She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband, Ed Monteith; four brothers, Cecil Sullivan, Basil Sullivan, Max Sullivan, Ross Lee Sullivan, Jr; and two sisters, Beverly Sullivan Moore and Nell Sullivan McCoy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at The Church at West Gantt, 1452 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC 29605. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:15 AM on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at The Church at West Gantt.
