Marian Beard Pate, widow of Dove Henry "DH" Pate, died Saturday, April 14, at the Downs�?? Health Care Center in Clemson.

She was born in Blackville, SC, on July 16, 1921. After her graduation from St. George High School, Marian attended Winthrop College. She married DH in 1942, and when he returned from Pearl Harbor in 1945, they moved to Charleston, SC, where they lived until they moved to Clemson in 2006. Marian spent her working career as office manager for Dr. Kathleen Riley, a Charleston dermatologist. In her 60�??s she returned to college and completed her BA in history at Charleston Southern University. An active member of Ashley River Baptist Church, she also participated in many volunteer activities including Meals on Wheels and teaching English as a second language. She and DH were docents at Middleton Gardens and at several historic Charleston homes.

Predeceased by her parents, Quinby and Geraldine Beard, and her sister, Naomi Case, she is survived by her brother Bill Beard of Witicha; her sons, Henry (Nancy) of Seneca, SC, and Charles (Nell) of Eatonton, GA; two grandchildren, David Pate and Dana Pickens (Charles); and four great-grandchildren.

Interment will be Wednesday, April 18, at the family cemetery in Scranton, SC.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Clemson at 3:00 p.m. on April 29.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oconee Hospice of the Foothills, 298 Memorial Drive, Seneca, SC, or to First Baptist Church, College Avenue, Clemson, SC.
