Marie M. Murphree

Marie Mann Murphree, 84, of Winston-Salem, NC and formerly of Easley and Liberty, SC, wife of the late Rev. Marvin Murphree, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in Winston-Salem. She graduated from North Greenville Junior College and studied at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Until her husband's retirement, she was a devoted and active minister's wife at churches in both NC and SC. More recently she lived in Winston-Salem, NC and when her health permitted was an active member of College Park Baptist Church.
Over the years Marie taught many Sunday School classes, led Girl's Auxillary and Mission groups, and often played piano at various church functions. Marie taught piano lessons off and on through the years and especially enjoyed teaching her own nieces and nephews. She enjoyed reading and writing, and loved telling stories for her granddaughters when they were young.
Marie leaves behind many beloved and loving family members including two daughters, Jean Murphree Batten (Phil) of Winston-Salem and Carol Murphree Miles (Randall) of Candor, NY; two treasured granddaughters, Natalie Batten of Raleigh, NC and Sara Batten Warf (Martin) of Cary, NC; and a much loved great-grandson, Thomas Richmond Warf also of Cary, NC.
Marie was a daughter of the late Ollie Benson Mann, Sr., and the late Aileen McCall Mann of Cedar Rock, SC. She also leaves behind a brother, Robert G. Mann, Sr., (Judy) of Easley; four sisters, Ruth Mann Smith of Evergreen, CO, Nancy Mann Porter (James) of Simpsonville, SC, Patricia Mann Parrott and Barbara Mann Chastain (Harold) of Easley. She was also predeceased by her older brother, OB Mann, Jr., and by brothers-in-law, Donald Parrott and Bill Smith. Marie also has a number of very special nieces, nephews, and their families of whom she was very fond and who brought additional joy into her life.

Memorial cryptside services will be held at 3:30 PM Friday, March 21st at the Bell Tower Mausoleum of Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC. In addition, there will be a memorial service at 2:30 PM on Sunday, March 23rd at College Park Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. Visitation will be held from 1:30 PM until 2:30 PM Sunday in Smith Hall at the Church.
