Obituary

Marion Ray Marchbanks, 73, beloved husband of Sandra Bryant Marchbanks, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026. Born on July 2, 1952, in Greenville, SC, to the late Robert Marion Marchbanks and the late Della Rae Nations Marchbanks. Ray was a man of many talents leaving behind a legacy marked by dedication, skill and helpfulness.

Ray was a man of faith and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

He was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped much of his character and discipline. After his military service, he built a remarkable career at Michelin, where he retired as a Quality Technician. Known for his expertise and leadership, he was a team leader who took charge in repairing a vast array of electrical concerns, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues.

Beyond his professional achievements, he was affectionately known as "Mr. Fixer" among friends and family. His remarkable ability to repair almost anything made him the go-to person in his family and community. Those who knew him well would often seek his assistance, knowing that he possessed not only great skill but also patience and generosity of his time.

His passions extended into the outdoors, where he was an avid hunter. He particularly enjoyed hunting large game, whether it being at the local hunt camp or on out-of-state hunting trips. It always led to camaraderie and friendship, as he shared these experiences with many hunting friends. The joy he found in these adventures was a significant part of his life and identity.

Those close to Ray cherished his vibrant personality. He loved to joke and had a unique talent for lightening serious moments with humor, always managing to end conversations on a positive and uplifting note.

Family was at the center of his life. He adored his wife, whose cooking he greatly enjoyed, and he treasured his role as "Papa," a title given to him lovingly by his grandchildren. His devotion to their happiness and wellbeing was evident to all who knew him.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by son, Marion "Chad" Marchbanks; sisters, Debra Jean Griffin (Jerry) and Elaine Marchbanks Green; brothers, Randy Eugene Marchbanks and Michael Marchbanks and sister-in-law, Nancy Marchbanks.

In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by grandchildren, Samantha "Sammy" Marchbanks, Ashton Marchbanks and Chandler Ray Marchbanks (Alyssa); great-grandson, Asher James Marchbanks; sister, Debbie Marchbanks Gantt (Wayne); brother; Brad Marchbanks; brother-in-law, Donnie Ray Green; numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful fur companion, Ranger.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road. His graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 1, 2026, in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
