Marlene Edna
Pendry
February 13, 1951 – May 27, 2026
Marlene Edna Pendry, 75, of Piedmont, SC, a devoted nurse, loving mother, and vibrant spirit, passed away on May 27, 2026. Born on February 13, 1951, in Monmouth, Illinois, to Adrian Lewis and Edna Pauline Lefler, Marlene’s journey was one of deep passion and unwavering dedication, especially to those she cared for most.
After high school, Marlene found her calling in nursing, where she served in many different capacities caring for patients of all ages. In her last ten years of nursing, she discovered her passion of caring for veterans who served their country. Her hard work and love for nursing were hallmarks of her life, reflecting a strength that those close to her admired deeply.
Marlene’s personality was as colorful as her life. Opinionated and outspoken, with a spirited zest that brought joy to every room she entered. She was fiercely loyal to those she loved. She was not just fun to be with; she was the beating heart of her family, and her presence will be profoundly missed.
Her family was her greatest pride and accomplishment. Marlene was a protective and caring mom who treasured her role in her children’s lives. Her love overflowed even more when it came to her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond words. A cherished family memory remains in her playful retort whenever someone said, “I love you,” she would say, “I love you more or I saw you first.” These words perfectly capture the warmth that defined her relationships.
Marlene’s story included a chapter of once-in-a-lifetime love with Kenneth Schumard for a time that she described as “not long enough” before his passing in 2005. She had truly found her match in Kenny. The love they shared remained forever in her heart.
Outside of her family and career, Marlene delighted in the simple joys of life. She was an ardent fan of classic rock, with Boston and Rick Springfield holding special places among her favorites. Her culinary talents were legendary, particularly her homemade egg noodles and her beloved peanut brittle, treats that brought comfort and happiness to many. In quieter moments, she expressed her creativity through crafting.
Marlene is survived by her children; Matt Pendry (Ashley), Heather Stockdale (Earl), Brett Pendry, her grandchildren; Brooke Hardy (Greg), Nicole Fanning (Julianna), Hunter Pendry, Casey Bendt (Jeremy), Samuel Stockdale, Kayelee Stockdale, Wyatt Stockdale; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Roger Lefler, Bruce Lefler, Cheryl Johnson (Tim), Elaine Lefler Keever (David); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, Adrian Lewis and Edna Pauline Lefler; the love of her life, Kenneth Schumard; and her siblings, Davey Lefler and Cynthia Jo Lefler.
Marlene leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and laughter. Though she has departed, her affectionate spirit, her fierce protection of family, and her joyful soul will live on in all who were fortunate to know her.
