Martha H. Hobson

Martha Horton Hobson, 90, of 222 Riggs Drive, died Friday, October 10, 2008 at Seneca Health and Rehabilitation Center in Seneca.
Mrs. Hobson was born in Belton to Silas M. and Lula Ann Hanks Horton on February 9, 1918. She graduated as Valedictorian from Belton High School and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Furman University. She attended Emory University for a time and became Secretary to the President of Emory. She married J. Harvey Hobson on June 1, 1946.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Martha H. Johnson and her husband George of Columbia; a son, J. Harvey Hobson, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Palm Bay, FL; four grandchildren, Emily Hynds and her husband Keith of Birmingham, AL, Lydia Reynolds and her husband Dana of Boston, MA, Benjamin Hobson of Chesapeake, VA, Carolyn Hobson of Charlotte, NC; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah and Joshua Hynds, and Daniel and Peter Reynolds. She is predeceased by two sisters, Alice Blake, and Marian Williams.
Martha was a member and Elder at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church where she was very involved in many services to the church and community. She taught 3rd grade for years in the church school and also taught in the weekday kindergarten at the church.
She did volunteer work with Meals on Wheels, Clemson Community Care, Clemson Child Development Center and other programs. She was a long time member of the Wednesday Book Club and the Thursday Bridge Club.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church.
