Martha W Hutchins

Martha Winchester Hutchins, age 76, of Easley, SC, went to be with the Lord in the early hours of July 22, 2025, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Pickens, SC, Martha was the only daughter of the late Mattie Lou and James Larry Winchester. She had four brothers and deeply valued her close-knit family. Martha was preceded in death by her parents and two of her brothers, Jerry Winchester (Marsha) and Ricky Winchester. She is survived by her brothers, Jimmy Winchester (Carolyn) of Easley and Keith Winchester (Patty) of Greenville.

Martha is also survived by her only child, John Hutchins (Allyson) of Greer, SC and her three beloved grandchildren — Matthew (19), Sam (17), and Claire (13) — who lovingly knew her as Nama. They were her pride and joy, and she was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Known as “Mot” to many, Martha worked much of her life in restaurants, most recently at Tommy’s Country Ham House, where she was a familiar and cherished face among coworkers and regulars. She built lasting connections with her customers, and many looked forward to her caring service and smile. Martha had a deep appreciation for good country cooking, especially meats and vegetables, and was famously particular about her food — something everyone who knew her remembers with a smile.

She was a longtime member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley and was part of the Ruth Sunday School class, a group of ladies affectionately known as “the Ruthies.” Martha loved going out to eat and taking trips with her dear friends. She also shared a special bond with her cousin Jan Conner; the two could often be found shopping together, especially at her favorite store, Belk.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley, SC. Visitation will take place at the church immediately prior to the service, from 12:30 P.M. to 1:15 P.M. Burial will follow the service at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
