Martha Lillian Maxwell died at St. Francis Hospital on September 7, 2008. She was 88. Martha was born on Dec. 21, 1919 in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of James Thomas and Martha Lillian Busha Maxwell. She graduated from Centerville High School and was a member of Bio Baptist Church. She attended West Georgia College and the University of Georgia.
Martha worked as an air traffic controller from 1942 to 1947. She then worked with U. S. Department of State for 38 years with assignments in numerous international cities including: Paris, France, London, England, Ankara, Turkey, Tel Aviv, Israel, Stockholm, Sweden, LaPaz, Boliva, Guatemala City, Guatemala and Washington, D.C.
Martha is survived by her sister; Barbara Maxwell Robinson of Clemson, SC and her nieces and nephews: Amy Spielman of Snellville, GA, Martha (Kenneth) McGee of Buford, GA, Mary Koch Ray and Martha Koch (Al) Stone of Rome, GA, Henry Francis (Jeri) Koch II, of Seattle, WA, Barbara Robinson Price and Chandler Charles (Martha Lynn) Robinson of Clemson, SC, Timothy Maxwell Robinson of Greenville, SC, Gilbert Chase Robinson, Jr. of Cullowhee, NC. Martha was predeceased by two sisters: Sara Hester Maxwell Koch and Betty Turner Storey.
Graveside service will be held at Bio Baptist Church, 2145 Bio Church Road, Hartwell, GA 30643, phone: 706/376-8327. The service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 2pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Bio Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or the charity of one's choice.
