Marvin Davis "Slack" Lindsay died May 30, 2006
Born December 14, 1921 in Clemson, he was the son of the late Myrtle Burton and James Gill Lindsay. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn McCollum Lindsay.
After graduating from Calhoun Clemson High School, he earned a B.S. degree in Textile Engineering from Clemson College in 1947. During World War II, he served as a Captain and a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
His textile career included working for Deering Milliken and Southeastern Engineers before forming his own firm M.D. Lindsay Company. After retirement, he became an After Dinner Speaker and Humorist appearing at many business conventions and civic club meetings throughout the country.
Slack was a past president of the Clemson Rotary Club and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as president of both the Clemson Cotillion Club and Clan Lindsay USA. A 62 year member of Clemson United Methodist Church, Slack held various church leadership positions.
Family survivors include: daughters Ann Copsey and husband Ron of Greenville, SC; Susan Bishop and husband Frank of Atlanta, GA; and son Pickens Lindsay and wife Libby of Atlanta. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Drew Pearce and wife Dorothee, Rivers Pearce, Lindsay Bishop, Trey Bishop, Elizabeth Lindsay and Pickens Lindsay, Jr. He was predeceased by three brothers, R. Jack Lindsay, John D. Lindsay and Herbert N. Lindsay. He is survived by one brother James B. "Duck" Lindsay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemson United Methodist Church, Building Fund, PO Box 590, Clemson, SC 29633.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 2, 2006 at Clemson United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
