Mary Wilson Bowie, 89, of The Willows of Easley, died Monday, April 14, 2008 at Oakmont East Nursing Center in Greenville.
Born in Breckinridge County, KY, she was a daughter of the late J.R. and Mable Cox Wilson. She was formerly the secretary at Fort Campbell and Fort Knox, KY during WWII, and was secretary for Senator Harris Smith. Mrs. Bowie was a member of the Womens Club of Easley, was former vice-president of The Friends of the Easley Library, and St. Paul United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School classes, was the church pianist for over 50 years, was a former president of the Anderson District United Methodist Women, the St. Paul United Methodist Women and the Neighborhood Bible Study Group of Cobblestone.
Surviving are a daughter, Eleanor Bowie Swillen and husband Rick of Easley; and two grandchildren, Mary Jane Hardman of Rock Hill and John William Irving of Colorado Springs, CO. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William C. Bowie; a daughter, Elaine Wyatt Bowie; a brother, George M. Wilson; and a sister, Eleanor Campbell.
Funeral services will be 3:30 PM Tuesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown. Burial will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Tuesday from 2:30 until 3:30 PM at the funeral home.
