Mary Gwynn Hammond Bruce, 92, a longtime resident of Clemson, SC, passed peacefully June 14, 2010 after a brief illness.
She was born in 1917 in Beech Island, SC, daughter of the late Christopher and Mary Gwynn Hammond. She married Robert C. Bruce of Greenville, SC and lived in New York before moving to Clemson in 1971. She retired from the Clemson University Forestry Department , was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Clemson and lead a full and active life up until her last illness.
Surviving are four children, Emily Kennedy of Marietta, GA, Robert Bruce of Houston, TX, Louis Bruce of Port Royal, SC, and Christopher Bruce of Greenville, SC; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Chris Hammond of Savannah, GA.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday in the chapel of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Clemson. Burial will held in family cemetery in Beech Island, SC at a later date.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935.
