Mary Reid Dacus, 98, of Piedmont, South Carolina passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024.
Mary was born in Piedmont and is the daughter of the late Furman Orr and the late Alma Wilson Orr. She was a retired seamstress with Piedmont Shirt Company and a member of Mount Airy Baptist Church. She grew up in the church and played the piano for her sisters to sing. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed bird watching and was an avid reader. She was a wonderful cook and a great seamstress. She sewed her daughter’s clothes when she was young. To know her was to love her and she will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Surviving are her son, Mike Dacus of Powdersville; a daughter, Mary Ann Hunt and her husband, Paul, of Easley; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and seven great, great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her late husband, Henry Ervin “Little Henry” Dacus, Jr.; her two sisters, Lou Ella Gambrell and Betty Jean Lesley.
The family will receive friends between 12:30 – 1:45 PM on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, in the Chapel of Reflection at Robinson Memorial Gardens – 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642. The funeral service will follow the visitation in the Chapel of Reflection at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dave Storay officiating.
