Mary Frances Smith

Mary Frances Smith of Easley, South Carolina, a retired seamstress with SWIRL, Inc., passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2023. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Frances will be remembered for her kind heart, uplifting spirit, and unwavering faith.

Born in Anderson County, Frances (as she was affectionately known) grew up surrounded by the warmth and love of her parents, the late John David Griffith, and the late Annie Louise Griffith. She was also preceded in death by her brother, David Griffith. Frances' family roots instilled in her the values of compassion, loyalty, and hard work that shaped her into the remarkable lady she became.

Frances was a devoted Christian who found solace in studying her Bible. Her faith guided her actions and inspired those around her. She was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Easley. In addition to nurturing her spiritual life, Frances had a passion for sewing. As a talented seamstress, she poured her heart into every stitch.

Family was at the center of Frances' world. She adored taking care of children and found immense joy in keeping the nursery at her church. Frances' love extended further into the kitchen. She had a natural talent for cooking and created mouthwatering dishes that will be forever missed by those fortunate enough to have tasted them.

Frances is survived by her wonderful husband of 69 years, Ballard Smith, with whom she loved dearly. Their commitment to each other was a shining example of the power of love. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Gary Dean Smith (Bea) and Kenneth Scott Smith (Denise), who carry on their mother's legacy of compassion and devotion. Frances will also be missed dearly by her brother, Stanley Griffith (Barbara); sisters, Charlotte Taylor and Joyce Bailey; and her cherished grandchildren, Kevin Smith, Amanda Anderson, and Christina Smith; her great-grandchildren, Korbin, Kason, Aly, Oliver, Gage, and Blade.

Services to honor Frances' life will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. The visitation will take place from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM at Corinth Baptist Church located at 515 E Church Rd in Easley, SC. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM at Corinth Baptist Church. Frances will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 595 Old Liberty Rd in Easley, SC following the funeral service.

Frances Smith leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and faith that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she may no longer be with us physically, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. Her memory will forever be cherished, and her presence deeply missed.
