Mary Thompson "Tompy" Hunter

Mary Thompson Hunter (Tompy), wife of the late James Samuel Hunter, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Clemson Downs in Clemson, SC.
Born November 4, 1921 in Woodbury, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fannie Belle Thompson and Edwin David Oestricher.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2009, at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson, followed by a visitation in the church social hall.
Graveside services for the family will be at Woodland Cemetery on the Clemson University campus before the memorial service.
Mrs. Hunter is survived by her three sons and their wives: Tom and Sue Hunter, Steve and Laura Hunter; Joe and Lisa Hunter--all of Clemson; four grandchildren: Eddie Hunter of Spartanburg, Caroline, Seph and Morgan Hunter--all of Clemson; and her brother, Ralph Oestricher and wife Fran of Mulberry, Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Hunter were married October 16, 1943 at First Presbyterian Church in Orlando, Florida. After residing in Orlando, Clemson, Schenectady, NY, and Charlotte, NC, they retired to Clemson in 1978 where they became active members of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Hunter also participated in numerous organizations including the Clemson Garden Club, Clemson Book Club, University Women's Club, and Bridge Club.
