She was born on May 21, 1954 to Norman Jakust, Sr. and Georia Lu Herrscher Jakust in Detroit, Michigan. She got her degree in nursing from St. Clair Community College and worked as a nurse for 38 years. She loved music, her family, gardening, and animals.

Mary is survived by her husband, Mark; and son, Ryan Kidd. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Norman Jakust, Jr.
