Mary Lou Evans, 90, widow of the late John G. Evans Sr., passed away peacefully on Monday, August 27, 2018.
Mrs. Evans was born in Belton, SC on July 21, 1928 to parents Clyde C. Nicely and Mary Greer Nicely. She was a graduate of Pendleton High School, salutatorian, and an honor graduate of Lander College with a degree in Commercial Science. After graduating from Lander, Mrs. Evans married her childhood sweetheart John G. Evans Sr.
Mrs. Evans was very career oriented. As a young bride she worked for the Charleston Bank and returning to Pendleton each summer to work various bookkeeping jobs. After returning from Charleston to Pendleton, Mrs. Evans worked as a secretary and office manager at Fort Hill Federal for the Frank D Anderson, Sr. Mrs. Evans also worked for Anderson Insurance Agency with Frank D Anderson, Jr. For over 30 years she worked as the manager, bookkeeper and buyer for Pendleton Evans Drugstore and Gift Shop.
She was a member of the Pendleton First Baptist Church for 82 years and served as a training union teacher for young children and prepared communion sacraments. The church outreach ministry has been an integral part of Mary Lou's life since her husband's passing. The family truly appreciates the special cards, newsletters and visits. Mrs. Evans deepened her relationship with her Lord as a result of this outreach.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her son John G Evans Jr.(Teresa Paschal Evans) of Pendleton, granddaughter Anna Evans Gantt (Samuel Clayton Gantt), great-grandchildren Ruby Ann Gantt and Mason Paschal Gantt all of Greenwood, brother-in-law Harry Evans (Pat Evans), close cousins Dorothy Greer Gilliland (Jack Gilliland) of Greenwood and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, August 31 at First Baptist Church of Pendleton. Visitation will be held at 10 AM prior to the service. Committal will be following the funeral at the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home of John G. Evans Jr. of Pendleton.
