Mary Luck Mitchell

August 28, 1915 — July 23, 2013

Mary Luck Parks Mitchell died peacefully in her Six Mile home on July 23, 2013.

The daughter of Walter H. and Fleta (Luck) Parks, she was born in
Asheboro, N.C., August 28, 1915.

She was a graduate of Central Wesleyan College where she met her husband, Virgil Allen Mitchell. They were married in 1937. She spent her life with him as the helpful partner of a pastor and denominational leader of the Wesleyan Church. Mary was a member of the Fort Prince George Chapter of the DAR and a former Regent.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Mitchell Hollingsworth and Martha Mitchell Funnell of Ann Arbor, MI, grandsons, Alton Allen(Annette) Hollingsworth of MI and Adrian Allen (Nga) Funnell of CA; two sisters, Ruth Parks (the late Samuel) Newby and Kate Parks (Morris) King, both of NC, a brother-in-law, Charles W. Mitchell and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen(Elvin) Kelley, all of Simpsonville, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, a son, Walter Allen Mitchell in 1960, and a sister, Vera Parks (the late John) Storey in 2013.

In recent years Mary was able to stay in her own home with the help of Customized Companion Care and Hospice of the Upstate, her wonderful, thoughtful church family, friends and neighbors, and her special caregivers, Linda Baker and Lottie Cabbagestalk.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 26 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home in Central.

The service will be held Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 in the chapel at Alive Wesleyan Church in Central.

Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens.

Contributions in Mary's honor may be made to either the Allen and Virgil Mitchell Fund of the Wesleyan Church and sent to the SC District of the Wesleyan Church, PO Box 27275, Greenville, SC 29616 or to the Nicholson-Mitchell Center, Southern Wesleyan University, PO Box 1020, Central, SC 29630.
