Mary Beth Oxendine

Mary Beth Oxendine, 74, Central, SC, passed away on September 20, 2026. Mary Beth was born in Burlington, Iowa, to the late Tom Kirk and Gertrude Sossdorf Kirk.

Mary Beth earned her bachelor’s degree from Clemson University and began her working life with a brief career teaching elementary school students. After that, she devoted herself to raising her family and was a proud homemaker.

Mary Beth was an exceptional cook who was especially known for her Sunday dinners, homemade bread, and brownies with ice cream. The care she showed in her home and around her table was one of the many ways she expressed her love for others.

After her children were grown, she turned her attention to helping young mothers through encouragement and mentorship. She also shared her faith by witnessing to those in her community. In later years, she focused on her cooking show, “Cooking with Mrs. O,” which brought enjoyment to her and to those who watched for many years.

Mary Beth was a member of Cannon Memorial Baptist Church of Central, SC.

Mary Beth is survived by her son, Josh Oxendine (Alisha); daughter Marie Schmidt (Kevin); grandchildren, Banks Oxendine, Hampton Schmidt, Lucy Oxendine, Jake Schmidt, and Ava Oxendine; brother Jim Kirk (Melanie); and sister, Kathy Laskis.

In addition to her parents, Mary Beth is preceded in death by her cherished husband of 31 years, Tom Oxendine; sister, Nancy Reed; and granddaughter Ansleigh Schmidt

Mary Beth Oxendine will be remembered for her warm spirit, her devotion to her family, and her generous encouragement to others.
