Mrs. Mary Jean Martin Parrish, 81, of 205 Bud Nalley Drive, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Foothills Presbyterian Home.
Born in Greenville County, a daughter of the late Ben Hamilton Martin, Sr. and the late Mary Owens Martin, Mrs. Parrish received her Masters Degree in Education from Clemson University. She retired from teaching at Easley High School after twenty-seven years of service and was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Easley. Mary Jean had a passion for flowers and reading. She was a founding member of the Nosegay Garden Club and belonged to The Book Club and The Literary Bored Book Club. After retirement, Mrs. Parrish enjoyed painting and traveling abroad.
Surviving are three sons, Jack S. Parrish, Jr. of Easley, Martin O. Parrish (Georgette) of Boulder, CO, and Phillip M. Parrish (Cynthia) of Easley; one daughter, Jean P. Freeman (James) of Columbia; one brother, Ben Hamilton Martin, Jr. (Samiel) of Easley; one sister, Dorothy Martin Harris (James) of Greenville; six grandchildren, Katie, Molly, and Robin Freeman, Lauren, Ashley, and Frances Parrish; and one great-grandson, Henry Hamilton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Parrish was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Amy Parrish.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at First United Methodist Church, Easley with Rev. Jim Correll officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery, Easley.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.
The family is at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Cynthia Parrish.
