Mary Neely Phillips

November 6, 1930 — September 19, 2018

Mary Elizabeth Neely Phillips, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with her Lord on September 19, 2018.

She is survived by her devoted husband of seventy years, Thomas W. Phillips, Sr., her daughter Karen Phillips Childers (Randy), her sons, Thomas W. Phillips, Jr. (Alexis), Jerry B. Phillips (Susan), Dr. James P. Phillips (Pam), and Joel H. Phillips (Kathy); eight grandchildren, Mary Lauren Nulph, Emily Margaret Pitt (Eric), Zachary Phillips (fiancee, Tonya), Jeremy Phillips, Chad Phillips (Erinn), India Phillips Rankin (Nick), Ashley Phillips Burris, Brad Phillips; and eleven great grandchildren, Max Nulph, Brandon Nulph, Natalie Elizabeth Nulph, Lucas Phillips, Cade Rankin, Caroline Elizabeth Phillips, Colin Phillips, Charlie Phillips, Lawton Burris, Ethan Pitt, and Emma Katherine Pitt. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, George W. Phillips (Camilla), her sisters-in-law, Leona "Jackie" Ne ely, Betty P. Catoe, Miriam P. Cauthen, Mary Lou P. Mosley (Billy), and Doris P. Hammond (Paul), and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, Hattie Mae Caskey Neely and James Oscar Neely, her brother, James Henry Neely and parents-in-law, Hattie Helen Rollins Phillips and Whiteford Joseph Phillips.

Mary was born and educated in Lancaster, South Carolina. She was a loving homemaker and a meticulous seamstress. She also loved knitting, crocheting, cross-stitching and reading. Mary was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing fresh vegetables. Mary was raised Methodist but became a devout Baptist after her marriage to Thomas. She assisted Thomas with Boy Scouts of Lancaster. She was a faithful member of Woodside Baptist Church, Mountain Springs Baptist Church and finally at Mount Airy Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, participated in WMU, helped in GA's, and sang in the choir for many years.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Interim Healthcare Hospice of Anderson.

A funeral service, led by Dr. Keith Shorter and Reverend and Mrs. David Storay, Jr., will be held Friday, September 21, 2018 at 2:00pm with visitation at 1:00PM at Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 210 Mt. Airy Church Rd., Easley, SC 29642. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 at The Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Airy Baptist Church, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
