Mary Josephine Moorer Pollock, 94, widow of Carl William Pollock, a resident of Foothills Presbyterian Home, formerly of 6 New Town Lane, The Crescent, Charleston, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 12, 2008.

Mrs. Pollock was born June 27, 1913 in Charleston, S.C., daughter of the late Alfred Shuler Moorer and Josephine Butler Moorer. She was a graduate of Julian Mitchell School, Memminger High School, and attended Newberry College. Mrs. Pollock taught piano for fifteen years and was organist and choir director of Trinity Methodist Church for twenty-one years.

She was very active in her lifetime. In church activities, she was a past president of the women of Westminster Presbyterian Church as well as past president of women of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and an honorary life member of the Presbyterian Women U.S.A.

She was a charter member and past president of the Charleston Exchange Club Auxiliary. She was a past president of the Music Study Club of Charleston and a charter member of the Charleston Organist Guild. She held several positions in the South Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs and the South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs, being listed in Who's Who of the National Federation of Music Clubs. She served on the advisory board of the Charleston Concert Association and the board of the Florence Crittenton Home. She also served on the board of the Charleston Symphony Women's Association.

She was an active member of The Garden Club of Charleston, holding many positions including President, when her project of restoring the Gate Temple of the Joseph Manigault House was begun. She was a life member of The Ladies Benevolent Society and a member of the Council of the Gibbes Art Gallery of Charleston, a member of the Preservation Society, the Family Christian Y, and the Charleston Republican Women's Club. In November 1986, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the Federation of Women's Clubs of Charleston by having her name permanently placed in the Charleston City Hall.

Surviving are a daughter, Marcia Pollock Ragsdale and her husband, William Jackson Ragsdale, Jr., of Easley; two grandsons, William Jackson Ragsdale, III and his wife, Ashley Smith Ragsdale, Craig Shuler Ragsdale and his wife, Liza Wilson Ragsdale; and twin great-grandsons, William Duke Ragsdale and Smith Jackson Ragsdale.

A memorial service will be 11 AM Friday at Foothills Presbyterian Home in Easley.

Funeral services will be 2 PM Monday at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church in Charleston. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:45 P.M. until 1:45 PM Monday in the Lilly Chapel of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, prior to the service.
