Mary Francis Mattison Spearman, 94, widow of Marvin W. Spearman (deceased 1961) died Dec. 13, 2007. A native of Anderson, SC, she had been a resident of the Lowman Home in White Rock, SC since 2002.

Mrs. Spearman had a long association with Clemson University, having worked in the business office in the 1930s following her graduation from Katherine Gibbs Business School until her marriage to Marvin Spearman of Anderson County in 1938. She returned to Clemson in 1962 and resumed her work for the University, where she was an administrative assistant in the Office of the President from 1963-1976. She was active in the Pendleton Historic Foundation and the Clemson United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Spearman is survived by her two children, Marvin Jr. (Pete) and his wife Marty of Chapin, SC, and Angelina Howard and her husband Richard Johnson of Arnold, MD. Four grandchildren: Hugh Spearman and his wife Susan of Summerville, SC; Amy and her husband Larry Schwartz of West Columbia; Susan Johnson and Porter Johnson of Arnold, MD. Four great grandchildren: Melissa and Kyle Spearman of Summerville, SC and Jesse Summerlin and Jacob Schwartz of West Columbia, SC.

A memorial service will be held at the Lowman Home Chapel on Saturday morning, Dec. 15 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Beulah United Methodist Church on Highway 81 in Anderson County, SC.

Memorials may be made to either the Pendleton Historic Foundation, P. O. Box 444, Pendleton, SC 29670 or the Clemson University Foundation at P. O. Box 1889, Clemson, SC 29634 with her name in the memo line of the memorial.
