Matthew Blake Porter

Loved dearly by his family and friends, Matthew Blake Porter of Easley SC, went to be with the Lord the morning of April 18, 2023.  

Born November 3, 1985, he is survived by his loving parents, Kirk and Gail McMahan Porter; sister, Michelle James (Ladd James) of Columbia SC; brother, Sheldon Porter (Lindsay) of Easley SC and 6 dearly loved nephews and niece, Garrett, Rhett, Hayes, Eli, Jack, and Lola.

Matthew was a fierce and loyal friend to all who knew him and adored his family with a passion.  He had an avid love of golf and began playing competitively at the age of six, continuing to enjoy the game into adulthood on his home course, Smithfields Country Club.  Matthew loved working with his hands and was always willing to share his talent by helping others with projects. He was an avid hunter, enjoying turkey season in the spring and dove hunting in the fall.  Many memories will live on in the hearts of his family and friends of his playful and fun spirit.  

His family rejoices in Psalm 30:5 which states, “weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.”  While he will be missed on this Earth, we know that this time apart is only temporary.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 12:45 pm Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642.  A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow the service at Berea First Baptist, 529 Farrs Bridge Road, Greenville, SC 29611.

In remembrance of Matthew’s life, the family asks that donations be made to Easley High School Golf by bringing a check to the services or by mailing a check made out to Easley High School Golf to Easley High School, Attn: Coach Daniel, 154 Greenwave Blvd., Easley SC 29642.
