Maurice L. Wolla

Maurice LeRoy Wolla, 81, husband of Gail Wolla, passed away Friday, May 01, 2015, at his home.
Born on May 13, 1933, in Minot, North Dakota, he was the son of the late Edward and Olaug Wolla. He attended North Dakota State University and Michigan State University, where he earned his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering. His two passions in life were his family and teaching. He was a professor at Clemson University from 1966 until 1985. Following a short time at Schlumberger Industries in Atlanta, GA, he returned to academe in 1992 at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, where he helped build a new program, the College of Integrated Science and Technology. He retired from James Madison University as an emeritus professor in 2000 and moved back to the Clemson area.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Katherine (Steve) Carhart of Atlanta, GA, Nancy (Darryl) Gardner of Florence, SC, Jeff (Karen) Wolla of Arlington, VA, David (Barbara) Wolla of Winston-Salem, NC, Barbara Quinn of Clemson, SC, and ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life on Monday, May 4, 2015, at University Lutheran Church, 111 Sloan Street, Clemson, at 3:00P. The family will be receiving guests following the service in the church's fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Maurice Wolla Endowed Scholarship at James Madison University (JMU Foundation, MSC 3603, James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA 22807) or University Lutheran Church, 111 Sloan Street, Clemson, SC 29631.
