Max Douglas Sherrill, PhD., 82, of 326 Woodland Way and husband of Emily Semmes Sherrill, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at the CARC Skilled Nursing Center.
Born in Hickory, NC, he was a son of the late Barney Hiram and Lorene Elizabeth Settlemyre Sherrill. Dr. Sherrill attended Lenior-Rhyne College and was a 1953 graduate of University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill where he also earned his Ph.D. in Physics in 1961. He was a retired professor of Physics at Clemson University. He was a volunteer with the Clemson Child Development Center.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Max Douglas Sherrill (Honore') of Central, SC, David Semmes Sherrill (Mary) of Westford, MA, and Adam Thomas Sherrill (Ali) of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Margaret S. Pruitt (Kaoru Seo) of Long Beach, CA and Katherine S. Orr (Michael) of Central, SC; one sister, Joyce Clayton of Hickory, NC; 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3 PM, Monday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
