Mayne Cole Collins

Mayne Cole Collins, 88, of Clemson SC, previously from Rockingham NC, died on March 5, 2023. The daughter of the late Edwin Roscoe and Mayne Cole Cox, she was born in Anson County, NC on August 15, 1934, and grew up and lived in Rockingham. For many years, she worked in various roles at Richmond Community College. While working, Mayne Cole attended Pembroke State University in the evenings and proudly earned a degree in sociology. After retirement from RCC, she moved to Clemson, SC to be near family.
Mayne Cole was very interested in genealogy, continuing a tradition begun by her aunt. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society. Mayne Cole was fiercely independent, was not intimidated by technology or the computer, was an excellent seamstress, and loved dogs. Her homemade spaghetti sauce and butterscotch brownies were family favorites. She was an avid walker, and enjoyed walking with friends and participating in exercise classes at Silver Sneakers. She was also devoted to her church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rockingham, attended St. John’s United Methodist Church of Anderson SC, and participated in Susanna circle at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca SC. She enjoyed helping others and led a life of service.
She is survived by two children: sons, Randy Collins and wife Dianne, and David Collins and wife Hope; four grandchildren: Katie Fronek, Claire Collins Montgomery and husband David, Sam Collins, and Wren Collins; and brother Edwin R. Cox and wife Anne.
Visitation is at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home (108 Cross Creek Rd, Central SC) on Wednesday, March 8, from 4:00 to 6:00pm. A graveside service will be held at Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham on Thursday, March 9 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church of Rockingham (410 E. Washington St., Rockingham NC 28379), St. Johns United Methodist Church (515 S. McDuffie St., Anderson, SC 29624), or a charity of your choice.
