Melton "Smitty" Smith

Melton "Smitty" Smith, 79, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Center.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late James and Bernice Black Smith, Mr. Smith retired from Fort Hill Natural Gas and attended Victory Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Long Smith of the home; two sons, Michael Smith and wife, Donna and Scott Smith and wife, Kelli, all of Easley; a daughter, Debbie Summey and husband, Gordon, of Spartanburg; three brothers, Rev. Howard Smith of Lyman, and Rev. Homer Smith and Rev. Elmer Smith, both of Easley; a step-son, Danny Traber and wife, Debbie, of Easley; a step-daughter, Denise Doud and husband, Denny, of Greenwood; a step-sister, Helen Murphy of Easley; eight grandchildren,and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was predeceased by his first wife, Betty Waring Smith and by a brother, Rev. J.D. Smith.
Graveside services wil be 11:00 a. m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Greg Phillips officiating.
Visitation will be at the graveside immediately following the service.
