Meredith Mies Edmondson, of Easley, daughter of the late Army Major, Dr. Charles Anthony Mies, Jr. and Katherine Linhoss Mies, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Shortly after her birth on September 9, 1943, in Palm Springs, CA, her family moved to Greenville, SC. She grew up in Greenville and graduated from Greenville High School before briefly attending The University of North Carolina. She then transferred to The University of Georgia, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts. Meredith married Robert Anderson Edmondson, III in 1967, and they had two wonderful sons together. She was a highly respected and successful educator who improved the lives of those she taught. Her teaching career, primarily Spanish, spanned several decades in primary, middle and high schools in Atlanta, GA. While teaching full-time and raising her two sons after her divorce, she earned a master’s degree in education from Georgia State University. Meredith also earned a theological degree for education ministry from The University of the South. Always an intellectual, she was forever learning about any subject she found that required further study and mastery. She was a long-time verger of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church in Atlanta, GA, which is where she also volunteered as host in the 1996 Summer Olympics at Centennial Park.
Ms. Edmondson is survived by her two sons, Robert Anderson Edmondson IV (Deede) and Charles Mies Edmondson (Dana), and four grandchildren, Meredith Bean, and Rob, Kate, and Thomas Edmondson.
Meredith was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother who was a lifelong reader of tens of thousands of books. She instilled her strong work ethics in her sons that carried them through the completion of multiple college degrees and their careers.
