Merle Stanley Hooper, Sr, 90, husband of the late Janet Reed Hooper, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. A native of New Jersey, he was the son of the late Harold and Lena Hoffman Hooper. He was a graduate of Upsala College, East Orange, N.J. with a major in Business and a Minor in Psychology. He was in the U. S. Navy, serving during WW II. He was a member of the Pendleton United Methodist Church, singing in the church choir. He was active in the community serving as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and also as a poll worker. He was an avid bowler.
He is survived by son, Merle Stanley (Butch) Hooper, Jr. and wife Jane of Rock Hill, SC; daughters; Kristine Ann Hooper Reeves and husband John of Central, Amy Jeanne Hooper Zhu of Anderson, Ann Elaine Hooper of Seneca; grandchildren, John Weston Reeves, Jr. and his wife Jenny of Jacksonville, FL, Paul Stanley Hooper, Michelle Aihua Zhu, Stephanie Meihua Zhu and great-grandaughter, Sadie Kathyrn Reeves.
Funeral services will held 3pm Wednesday at the Pendleton United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall 2-3pm prior to the service. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to Pendleton United Methodist Church, P.O.
