Michael Lewis James, 74, husband of Sharon Cantrell James, of Easley, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2026.
Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Henry Lewis and Margie Huff James.
Mr. James earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Pharmacy in 1977. Prior, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Health Science from Clemson University and additional degrees and certifications at North Greenville University and Furman University.
Over the course of his career, he practiced pharmacy with Revco, Winn-Dixie, Kelly’s Pharmacy, and several other pharmacies. He developed lasting relationships with those he served and many of his patients continued to seek him out wherever his career took him, following him from pharmacy to pharmacy; a reflection of the trust, respect, and genuine care he shared with his patients.
He was always serving and helping others, and that showed when he helped establish the Pickens County Free Medical Clinic, now the Samaritan Health Clinic, and supported the “Walk with a Doc” fundraiser. He also served on the Pharmacy Board on MUSC.
Mr. James was a hardworking man who loved farming, especially tending his blueberries, as well as remodeling and woodworking. He also had a special love for volunteering at nursing homes and hospitals as Santa, bringing joy and laughter to those he visited. He was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church and also attended Marietta Baptist Church.
In addition to his loving wife of 43 years, Michael is survived by sons, Rob Williams (Linda) of Greenwood and Jim Williams of Powdersville; daughters, Michelle Stephens (Sam) of Dacusville and Angela Spearman (Brian) of Powdersville; grandchildren, Anna-Kaye Williams, Brian Smith, Madi and Jada Stephens, Nate (Kara), JP, and Alex Spearman; and Mira and Piper Williams; a great-grandchild, Knox Spearman; and a brother-in-law, Dr. Stephen Cantrell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sharon McClellion.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2026 at the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Powdersville Road.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2026 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Samaritan Health Clinic of Pickens County, 303 Dacusville Highway, Easley, SC 29640 or to the MUSC Foundation, 18 Bee Street, MSC 450, Charleston, SC 29425.
