Mildred Jane Williams Merritt, 89, wife of Harold Grady Merritt, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Greenville, SC, a daughter of the late James Washington Williams and the late Lillian Looper Williams, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, seamstress, and chef. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of the home, and spending time with her family. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville where she taught Sunday School to four-year-olds for twenty-eight years and served on the bereavement committee, making her famous macaroni pie.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons, Danny Harold Merritt (Tammy) of Powdersville and James Randy Merritt (Sonja) of Cape Canaveral, FL; a daughter, Kathy Phillips of Powdersville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Donald Williams and James "Bud" Williams; and a sister, Mamie Doris Royal.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2022 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Friday at the church, prior to the service.
