Milford Hunt Sutherland, 96, widower of Evelyn Smith Sutherland, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. A native of Pickens County, he was the son of the late Amos Coleman and Nettie Chastain Sutherland. He was a graduate of Clemson University and was an Agricultural Economist with Clemson University. He was a member of Fort Hill Presbyterian Church and the Clemson Lions Club. He was a WWII Army veteran and member of the Retired Officers Association.
He is survived by a son Dr. James L. Sutherland and his wife Mary C. King Sutherland of Atlanta, GA; daughter Molly S. Melton of Simpsonville; 3 grandchildren: Michael Sutherland Melton and his wife Holly of Greenville, Jefferson David Melton of Clemson and Catherine Marie Sutherland of Atlanta and 4 great grandchildren: Mary Evelyn Melton, Elizabeth Lee Melton, Caroline McDaniel Melton and Michael Sutherland Melton, Jr. all of Greenville. He was predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson on Thursday at 11am. There will be a private burial at Cemetery Hill prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, 399 College Ave., Clemson, SC 29631 or to Clemson Meals on Wheels, PO Box 1415, Clemson, SC 29633
