Mellicent F. White

Mellicent DeSaussure Furman White, 82, died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at the Foothills Presbyterian Home.
Born in Easley, Mrs. White was a daughter of the late Dr. William Baker and Mellicent DeSaussure Furman. She graduated from Easley High School, Class of 1940, where she was Valedictorian and Coker College, Class of 1944, where she was Salutatorian. Mrs. White taught school for thirty years in various S.C. public schools and was named S.C. Teacher of the Year. She was a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are her husband, Larry W. White of the home; two daughters, Dr. Laurel Mellicent White of Williamsville, N.Y. and Clara White Davis of Minnetonka, Minnesota; two brothers, Thomas DeSaussure Furman and William Baker Furman, Jr., both of Pickens; one sister, Janette Furman Hamilton of Clemson; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Furman Davis, Caroline Welborn Davis, John Laurence MacAllister Keavey, and Clara Dorothy Keavey. Mrs. White was predeceased by an infant son, Lee Madison White and a sister, Caroline Furman Hamilton.
A celebration of her life will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday at Pickens Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Randolph Harris officiating. Private committal services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Westview Cemetery, Easley.
