MSCM Russell Eugene Garner, Sr. (Ret.), 76, of 208 S. Severn Cir., husband of Joyce Bridges Garner, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at his home.
Born January 29, 1938 in Union, he was a son of the late Russell and Caroldean Godshall Garner. Mr. Garner was a retired Master Chief Petty Officer with the US Navy serving twenty four years. Following his military service he was with Winn Dixie for twenty years. Mr. Garner was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a member of the Greenville Striper Club and Siloam Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of fifty seven years, he is survived by his son, Rusty Garner (Ellen); daughter, Sandy Sparks (Danny); brothers, Bill Garner and Mike Garner, grandchildren, Ryan Siegwarth and Jesse Garner and great-grandson, Luke Siegwarth.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 12, 2014 in the chapel of Siloam Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday at Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road.
