Myrtle Padgett (Padge) Hollis

Myrtle Padgett Hollis, known to her friends and family as Padge, was born October 1, 1917 in rural Colleton County, SC. She was the daughter of Isham and Mary Dell Padgett. She died June 9, 2014 at The Woodlands at Furman in Greenville, SC after a long and courageous battle with stroke related dementia.
Padge was an exceptional woman who persevered through the Depression, World War II, two sons, more than 35 years of teaching and four decades of marriage. She set a wonderful example for how to live life full of common sense and humor.
She spent part of her childhood at Epworth Orphanage, now Epworth Children's Home, with 2 of her sisters and was Valedictorian of the 1936 graduating class. She attended Lander College where she received a BA in Mathematics in 1940. In 1973 she received a Masters in Education from Clemson University. Padge touched the lives of thousands of students over the course of her long teaching career, which she finished at J.L. Mann High School where she taught ninth grade algebra for more than 15 years.
She was married to the former William Wallace Hollis for 42 years until his death in 1991. They had two sons, William Wallace Hollis, Jr and Robert Henri Hollis. She was devoted to her two sons Billy and Rob and their families.

Harriett and Rob Hollis of Atlanta, Georgia and their sons Henri and Carter, also of Atlanta.
The families will receive family and friends at the home of Linda and Billy Hollis on June 16, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
The funeral service and burial will be 11:00 AM on June 17 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 2868 Gaston Farm Road, Richburg, SC 29729.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Epworth Children's Home, 2900 Millwood Ave, Columbia, SC 29205.
