Nancy Elizabeth Rice, a devoted Jehovah's Witness, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, at the age of 80. Born on May 13, 1944, in Pickens, South Carolina, to Vivian Rice and James Cannon, Nancy's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and dedication to her beliefs.
Nancy's early years were marked by dividing her time between her birthplace in South Carolina and Detroit, Michigan. After completing high school and some college-level coursework, she discovered a natural aptitude for computers and embarked on a fulfilling career as a computer programmer for National Bank of Detroit (NBD) and then BI-LO/AHold, a worldwide food conglomerate. While her professional life was important, her spiritual journey held the greatest significance.
Nancy's conversion to the faith of Jehovah's Witnesses brought her immense joy and purpose. She actively participated in her congregation, regularly engaging in door-to-door ministry, studying the Bible, and attending meetings. Her unwavering commitment to the Kingdom of God guided her life, inspiring others with her moral uprightness and adherence to the teachings of her faith. Her good friends Sheryl Irby and Nadine Law were regularly by her side and (along with other church members) provided help and support continuously throughout Nancy's life.
She was the eldest sibling of: Carolyn Gowens (deceased), Johnnie Toole (Robert), Gregory Scott (of N. Carolina), Ronnie Gowens (deceased) and Donnie Gowens. Though she did not have children of her own, Nancy leaves behind a loving legacy. She is survived by her niece and nephews: Angela Gamble, Cheron Croft, Edward Gowens, TJ Croft, and Josh Croft. She is also fondly remembered by a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and cherished friends who shared countless joyful moments with her throughout her life.
Nancy Elizabeth Rice's life was a beautiful example of faith, dedication, and love. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.
The family will be hosting a funeral service in remembrance of her at a later date.
