Neal Lafayette Dickerson, aged 95 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 20, 2024. Neal was a resident of Easley, SC since 2014, living first at the Willows Senior Community and finally at Foothills Presbyterian Community.
Neal was born in Rabun Gap, GA, on November 4, 1928, to R M (Melton) Dickerson and Ella Shirley Dickerson. He was a graduate of Rabun Gap Nacoochee School and the University of Georgia. Neal was married to Martha Frances Moore on August 4, 1954, until her death on May 10, 2020.
In addition to his wife Martha and his parents, Neal was preceded in death by his sister Sara Dickerson Grist, and brother Robert Shirley Dickerson. He is survived by his three children Kathy Hobgood (Mike Bass), William Dickerson (Toni) and Joel Dickerson, his grandchildren Joel Hobgood (Rebecca), Michael Dickerson, Korey Dickerson, Kyle Dickerson and his great-granddaughter, Sutton Hobgood.
Neal was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving at stations in Maine and Michigan. He spent his civilian career in the Human Resources field, working primarily in the carpet industry. He lived with his family in Rabun Gap for many years where he worked for Lees Carpet. He moved his family to Dalton, GA in the early 70’s where he worked for several companies over the years, including Coronet Industries.
Neal was a member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church in Dillard, Georgia for most of his life, and then a member of Dug Gap Baptist Church in Dalton, GA. He and Martha moved their membership back to Head of Tennessee in the late 90’s when they returned to Rabun Gap after retiring.
Neal loved God and his family faithfully. He was always there for anyone who needed his help. He and his wife Martha participated in the Constructors for Christ organization and traveled with their local church group to numerous locations across the country, volunteering their time and labor to assist with building new churches.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Head of Tennessee Baptist Church with burial to follow in the family plot in the church cemetery.
