Nell Celia Rodgers Hawk (Nana), 90, of Clemson SC was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Upstate Community Hospice House-Agape Care in Landrum. Nell was the wife of the late Rev. Richard L Hawk.

Born in West Palm Beach, FL on Labor Day, September 2, during the hurricane of 1935, Nell was a force to be reckoned with the rest of her life as a devoted servant of Christ, a beloved wife, mother, nana, and inspiring teacher. A daughter of the late Dr. James P Rodgers and the late Sue Rogers Rodgers. She graduated from Winter Haven High School, attended Stetson University where she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and graduated from Valdosta State University and Clemson University where she received her Masters of Education in Literacy. Nell taught school in Georgia, North Carolina, and completed her career in the School District of Oconee County SC. Nell loved teaching children to read and impacted countless lives, including founding three church affiliated preschools. Nell was a member of First Baptist Church of Pendleton, SC. She also served in churches with her husband across the Southeast where she was known for her high soprano voice and shared her talent in church and school choirs. She accompanied many groups of students abroad through the People to People International Program. The family vacation to Ocean Isle Beach was cherished each year. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, reading, writing, and loved all animals, especially her many pets. Nell lived a life dedicated to Faith, love and service to others.

Surviving are her daughter, Katherine H Long (Tim) of Spartanburg; sons Richard L Hawk, Jr. (Amy) San Antonio, TX, and Rodger J Hawk of Anderson, SC; 11 grandchildren Kaitlin Seay (Joshua) Anna-Grace Kiendl (Trey), Elijah Long (Melissa), Samuel Long (fiancé Sami Scott), J.P. Hawk (Marina), Sarah Hawk, Charlie Hawk (Samantha), Aubrey Hawk; Athena Donald (Avery), William Hawk (Chiara), Kathlyn Hawk; and four great-grandchildren Hadley Kate Seay, Noah Hawk Long, Wolf Theodore Kiendl, and Hudson Lee Long; brother-in-law Jay MacCubbin, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Nell was predeceased by her brother James P Rodgers Jr. and her sister Susan Rodgers MacCubbin.

The family is profoundly grateful to the Martha Franks Retirement Community and Upstate Community Hospice House for their love and care of Nell over recent years.

A graveside service will be held at Oconee Memorial Gardens, Seneca, SC on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 2:30 pm, with Joshua Seay officiating. A celebration of life service will be held at the Martha Franks Retirement Community Chapel, Laurens, SC. Sunday, June 14 at 1:00 pm.
