Nell Lathem Couch Wood, age 90, passed away Monday, October 1, 2007, at Oakmont East Nursing Center, where she resided for ten years.

Born in Pickens County on June 27, 1917, Mrs. Wood was a daughter of the late Luther N. and Ellen Lathem Couch. Mrs. Wood was a long time member of Georges Creek Baptist Church. She attended schools for the deaf in Spartanburg, S.C.

Surviving are one niece, Jo J. Gibson and her husband, Floyd A. Gibson; and two nephews, Billy N. Looper and John Tanner and his wife, Jan Tanner. Mrs. Wood was married to Lewis A. Wood who predeceased her on July 17, 1989. Mrs. Wood was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth C. Johnson, Elizabeth C. Thruston, Lou Ellen C. Looper and Mary C. Todd.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Georges Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 1991 Saluda Dam Road, Easley, S.C. 29640, with the Reverend Baxter M. Wynn of First Baptist Church, Greenville officiating.

The family will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ann Shalley, special friends Mrs. Quilla Pindar and Mrs. Mary Stroud; all employees of the 500 wing of Oakmont East Nursing Center, especially nurses Sabrina, Marge, Melanie, Connie and Kathy; and nursing assistants, especially Leigh Ann, Lynn and Tisha.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Pastoral Care & Community Relations of First Baptist Church, 847 Cleveland Street, Greenville, S.C. 29601-4495.
