Norville Bridges Spearman, 75, husband of Margaret Sparks Spearman, died on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at home.
Born in Greenville, SC, on July 12, 1936, he was the son of the late Harold Bridges Spearman and Ruth Duckett Spearman.
He graduated from Clemson University in 1958 with a BS in Agricultural Economics & Rural Sociology. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served in the Infantry as a 1st Lt. during the 1961 Berlin crisis and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal.
He served as a Merchandising Manager for Sears, Roebuck and Co., and as an executive with West Lumber Company and BuilderMarts of America. In 1987, he founded Spearman Enterprises, a private management consulting and training company. He served on the Board of Directors for The Lester Group, Inc. and the Anderson Regional Airport Advisory Committee.
In 2000, he and his beloved wife moved to Clemson, SC where he eventually retired and became a valued member of the community. He and Margaret have been active members of Clemson Presbyterian Church. He served on Clemson Community Care�??s Board of Directors for 7 years and as President of the Board in 2007. He was also a Paul Harris Fellow and active member of the Clemson Rotary Club.
Norville was a loyal Clemson alumnus and "Golden Tiger" who participated in numerous University activities, including the Committee that established the Scroll of Honor Memorial and the Advisory Board of the College of Business and Behavioral Science.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Sparks Spearman and his sons, Norville Bridges "Brig" Spearman, Jr. of Front Royal, VA; Scott Kevin Spearman of Decatur, AL; Seth Brian Spearman of Greenville, SC; and Steven Randall Spearman of Clemson, SC as well as four daughters-in-law and 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Ronald K. Spearman, Gwendolyn Spearman Garwood and Brenda Spearman Dawkins and their spouses.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Clemson Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the church.
A private committal service will take place in Old Stone Church Cemetery, Clemson.
