Odie “Shot” James, Jr., 88, of Greenville, husband of the late Bobbie Ann Wardlaw James, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Central, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Baylus Odie James, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth James. Shot was a proud veteran who served for two years in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he attended Clemson University and later dedicated himself to a fulfilling career at Shealy Electrical Wholesale. His work ethic and commitment were evident to all who knew him. As an amazing father, Shot had a quiet, gentle spirit. He was known for his kindness and giving nature, always ready to lend a helping hand. Many were touched by his great wisdom, which he shared generously with those around him. In addition to his professional and family life, he was a devoted fan of the Clemson Tigers. Shot also enjoyed spending his free time picking at his guitar, filling his home with music and joy. He was also a member of Berea First Baptist Church, where he found a sense of community and connection.
He is survived by a son, Brian Keith James; a daughter, Cheryl D. James; and a granddaughter, Cheyenne James.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd James, and Charles Olin James; and five sisters, Jeanette Honea, Francis James, Norma Owen, Irene McJunkin, and Evelyn Crane.
There will be a private family graveside service in Robinson Memorial Gardens.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
