Oliver Doyle "Doug" Horton, 74, of 322 Haywood Road, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Clarence O. and Erma Reid Horton, Mr. Horton retired from the US Marines after twenty-one years of service where he served tours in Korea and Vietnam. Following his retirement from the Marines, Mr. Horton became a general agent with Blue Ridge Insurance Company. He was a member of the Marine Corps League.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Peggy Barry Horton of the home; a brother, Larry Dale Horton of Easley; three sisters, Christene Davis of Greer, Jean Moore of Six Mile and Patricia Chambers of Greenville; a special cat, Sir Velvet; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was predeceased by a sister, Reba Cooper.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev Simmons officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the Pickens County Humane Society, 500 Five Forks Road, Liberty, SC 29657.
The family is at the residence.
