Sergeant First Class E7 Oneal Edward Lackey, born on February 13, 1947, peacefully passed away on July 15, 2025. He was a remarkable individual known for his infectious laughter and being the life of the party. Neal's personality brought joy to those around him, and he had a special way of making everyone feel welcome.
Neal dedicated 28 years of his life to serving in the Army, proudly retiring as a Sergeant. His primary specialty was ammunition, and nuclear weapons specialist. During his service he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, as well as the Army Retired ribbon. Other awards that he received were the Kuwait Liberation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, The Overseas Service Ribbon with numeral 5, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm; the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, the Vietnam Service medal with Three Bronze Service Stars; a Combat Infantryman Badge, and an Expert Rifle Badge. He served during significant conflicts, including Vietnam and the Gulf War, where he was stationed in Kuwait. His commitment to his country was a source of immense pride for him. His family will forever remain devoted to our nation and proud of his legacy.
In his leisure time, Neal enjoyed listening to music and spending quality time in his man cave. He cherished attending family gatherings, where his laughter could be heard from afar. A true sports enthusiast, he was particularly passionate about Clemson football and Nascar, always ready to cheer for his favorite team or driver.
Neal's proudest accomplishment was his family, whom he loved dearly. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Neal is survived by his cherished wife Lynda Lackey, Son Brian Lackey(Renae), and Daughter Angela Dillard (Kevin), Stepsons Brent Guffee(Ashley), Skip Guffee(Dana) and Grandchildren, Reagan, Charlotte Lackey, Tanner Oneal Lackey, Aaron Newton(Samantha), Ashlyn Hix(Reign), Cooper, Cambell, Cayson, Mattie, Lucas, and Gracie Guffee, Great Grandchildren, Aria, and Freya Newton, Jaxon Simpson, and many nieces and nephews.
Neal is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, Dwight and mother Margaret (Irene) Stancil, children, infant daughter, Kimberly Lackey, and son Jason Lackey.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Sunday, July 20th, 2025, at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 21st, 2025, starting at 2 pm at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.
